Benton County, Tennessee County Court Minutes, 1842 - 1854
"At a County Court began & held for the County of Benton at the Courthouse in the town of Camden on the first Monday in July, it being the fourth day of said month and the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & forty two and the sixty seventh year of American Independence..." So began the July 1842 term of the Benton County, Tennessee County Court Minutes.
Volunteers at TNGS have abstracted 759 pages of these transactions, inclusive of the period July 1842 through September 1854, and published them in two volumes (Volume 1, July 1842-May 1848 and Volume 2, June 1848-September 1854).
Each volume has separate index (volume 1 index/volume 2 index). Volume 1 contains 215 pages of information and Volume 2 contains 263 pages.
Various records of County Court proceedings: road crew overseers and lists of hands, guardian bonds, provisions for the care of paupers, appointment of commissioners for the town of Camden, petitions of free persons of color, the setting of tax rates for merchants and peddlers, jury member lists, apprentice bonds.
